JAMIE SMITH – President & CEO
Jamie Smith is Founder and President & CEO of both Solar Bermuda Ltd. (2008) and OWC Contracting Ltd. (2002). With over 20 years experience in the construction industry, he has become Bermuda’s pioneer in the development of alternative energy based housing communities.
It was through researching ways to decrease energy costs while constructing a new home approximately 8 years ago, that Jamie first became aware of the advantages of renewable energy sources and in particular, photovoltaic solar power. Thus began his integration of alternative energies into home construction.
Jamie now builds homes with energy conservation methods in mind. His ultimate goal is to reduce carbon emissions in Bermuda and assist homeowners in reducing their energy consumption, with minimum impact on lifestyle.
In recent years, he has led the development of several affordable housing communities geared towards hard-working professionals seeking to enter the housing market including: Homestead Gardens and Bermuda’s first solar-powered community developments, Greenview Villas off Khyber Pass in Warwick and Kiskadee Grove in Hamilton Parish.
Jamie is an SEI certified installer, registered with the Department of Energy. He is currently working towards his North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners accreditation, the most recognised and highest level of certification for solar energy professionals (NABCEP).
Jamie is a member of the Bermuda Residential Building Code Review Committee in the capacity of Expert Advisor with regards to incorporating renewable energy procedures into the 2010 Residential Building Code. He has over the past several years, and continues, to upgrade his knowledge and skills through the attendance of numerous international conferences, trade shows and workshops.
ANDREW DAVIS – General Manager
In 2009 Andrew shifted his career from that of full time math and science teacher to join Solar Bermuda as our Project Manager. Andrew’s passion for these two subjects, combined with his interest in solar energy provided for a natural transition into this role.
He quickly excelled and is now General Manager, responsible for the day to day operations of Solar Bermuda. Andrew has extensive knowledge and experience in the local industry and is involved in all areas of operations from pre-site visits to design, planning, installation and commissioning of renewable energy systems.
Andrew recently achieved his North American Board of Certified Energy accreditation,
most recognized and highest level of certification for solar energy installers. To earn his NABCEP certification, he was required to demonstrate his competence as a solar PV installer by passing a rigorous exam that covers the multi-craft aspects of being a professional PV installer. He needed to demonstrate knowledge on subjects as diverse as system design, electrical and job safety, the National Electrical Code, roofing and construction techniques, system commissioning and troubleshooting. In addition to passing the exam, he was required to show real-world experience as a senior professional on an installation crew, as well as having a minimum number of hours of advanced training.
Andrew is also a registered SEI Certified Installer with the Department of Energy. Driven by his dedication to ensuring our clients are not only fully satisfied with their experience with the Company, but are also fully educated on the entire opportunity of harnessing solar energy, Andrew continues to broaden his experience and knowledge in this ever changing field by attending international solar design and installation training and trade shows.
